Hospitality with a local heart
As a family-owned vacation rental, we believe hospitality extends beyond caring for our guests. It also means being an active part of the community that makes Canaan Valley such a meaningful place to visit.
Our family designed the chalet with other families in mind. Its name comes from trail magic: the unexpected kindness and generosity hikers encounter along the Appalachian Trail. We try to bring that same spirit to each stay through thoughtful details, responsive hospitality, and a home where guests can relax together.
Those details change with the seasons. In warmer months, we support visiting hummingbirds with a balcony feeder and give guests simple instructions for feeding them. A bird feeder takes its place when the weather cools, and a tree and lights decorate the chalet for the winter holidays. Inside, a curated binder shares local suggestions; our online guides cover things to do in Canaan Valley and restaurants, cafes, and breweries before your trip begins.
We aim to benefit and improve the area through genuine, lasting involvement. We donate to causes we care about, volunteer our time, and form real friendships with neighbors throughout the area.
Caring for this place also means helping protect it. From choosing native plants to participating in trash cleanups, we look for practical ways to leave Canaan Valley better than we found it.
Trail Magic Chalet contributes to these local organizations. Their work supports outdoor education, equine-assisted learning, and emergency response in the communities around the chalet.
A Davis-based nonprofit outdoor education program, Appalachian Expeditions helps children, teens, and adults build confidence and connection through day camps, overnight expeditions, adult adventures, and custom group trips across Appalachia.
Located in Canaan Valley, Saddles & Smiles provides equine-assisted learning experiences for children, teens, and young adults living with a variety of challenges, helping each participant work toward their highest potential.
Canaan Valley's Company 30 is staffed entirely by volunteers and protects 180 square miles. Grants and donations help fund the department's facilities, equipment, and training.
